A Surprising Trip to the Hospital

So today I was booked in for a scan after last week’s doctor’s appointment when Dr. Morrow told me that the baby was small (sent for a scan with the professional diagnosis of “currently smallish” written on the requisition form).

This afternoon at 2:45 Tim and I met at Oakville Trafalgar Memorial Hospital to see how our little guy was doing. To shorten a not-too-long story, the end result is that the baby is still due on February 17 AND surprise of surprises – despite the fact he was smallish in the first trimester and to the surprise of our doctor (who doesn’t know where I”m hiding the baby) – he’s weighing in at a whopping 5 lbs 12 oz!! According to fetal chart estimates – he’s weighing what he should next week! At 35 weeks he should be closer to 5 lbs 4 oz. Not that that’s a cause for concern – but it does mean that either this little guy’s going be a big boy when he comes out or we’ll be having him even earlier than the 17th! (And that is a bit of a surprise given I was getting used to the idea of him showing up at the end of February again).

Here’s some new pictures of me and the baby:

This is me sticking my tummy out – trying to look really pregnant:

Here’s me standing normally:

Here’s a picture of the baby’s face (check out Mr. Chubby Cheeks):

It is tricky to see the pictures. The scan equipment at OTMH looks a million years behind St Pauls! The best way I can describe how to see his cheeks – right in the middle of the picture, are two dark circles – which are his eyes. To the right (above the eyes) is his forehead. To the left (below the eyes) you can see a whitish circle – that’s one of the little guys cheeks. He’s very camera shy – that was the only picture we could get without his hands in front of his face!

Oh Jen you have such a cute little belly. Be glad you aren’t feeling like a moose about now (although there’s still time to really pop!) Little Chubby Cheeks looks like he’s swimming underwater – I suppose that’s exactly what he is doing, hmm.

    Happy last month or so!
