The Regent Wind Tower

So Regent has a wind tower. For those who have never been to the College, it has a big wind tower out the front. It is newly built to ventilate the extended library and underground classrooms. As I was walking up to the building I noticed that the wind tower, which stretches high up above the building (although it is not as high as I thought it would be), does look good. The glass triangle is pleasing to the eye, but here is the thing, this wind tower was sold to the people of the College as this “eco friendly” high quality engineering feat of brilliance. However, I am puzzled by the wind tower. This amazing feat of engineering seems to be this – build a big glass tower, put a couple of vents on top and stick a 1970s cheap motel roof fan in the middle and hey presto the whole building is ventilated. Now I am no engineer but why not just stick a fan on the roof of the library and open a few windows!! On reflection that probably wouldn’t cost enough for Regent! Indeed I see that perfectly good sofas were thrown out this week in favour of newer alternatives. Despite their preaching on earth keeping etc their actions are very much to the contrary, Regent likes to waste money, well on themselves. Its a left leaning disease – all to noticable in the whole global warming fraternity (is that word still allowed at Regent????).

It reminds me of Wolfie Smith, the young Marxist and leader of the Tooting Popular Front. He was all talk about the revolution until he got his government handout – then he became a rampant capitalist! That’s the left wing for you. The Democratic loving Regent is no different.

Anyway – back to the tower – which is called “The true north tower” apparently shepherds used wind towers, or something, in the past and that’s good because – well who knows! although the true north is also what Canada calls itself (strong and free and all that). So would it not be better to sell the tower on that basis rather than some tosh about the middle east shepherds? I guess that is not PC enough and too North American for Regent!

    Zow! Hiss! Bang!

I thought it was called true north tower b/c it pointed to magnetic north or something like that.

Yes thats the main reason – but if you read the site they go on about ancient sheperds and middle east people using wind towers – getting back to nature by wasting money!

I think the name of the Tower should be changed. The “True North” is code speak for Canada and we all know thanks to Dan Oudshoorn that reference to a nation is verboten. BTW, Dan, the national anthem says, “We stand on guard for thee,” not, “we trample on God for thee.”

I can’t walk by the tower now without laughing at the motel fan.
