Exciting but unbelievable news!!!

We had suspected for the last few days, but today it was confirmed. We can hardly believe it and are not sure how we will cope but…………………… Jen is pregnant – again!!!!!

We bought a test yesterday and just before 12 o’clock today we did the test and the two little lines appeared! we are excited but nervous. So little Luke will get a brother or sister sooner than we thought!

More about this later – we are still trying to process it ourselves!

Still the 17th (phew!!)

I was excited yesterday to think that the baby may be here 4 days early, but he’s not. I went to the doctor today and he said he’ll keep it at the 17th – the 13th was given by the hospital since it was the first ultrasound they’d seen and therefore base their own date on their own scan.

But I was nervous too – and now feel very relieved!! I’d like a few more days of sleeping without a baby to interrupt sleep. Who knows – baby’s come when they decide to.

Oh – and an additional sigh of relief – the nurse reminded me the scan estimate can still be off a pound either way. Though of course that could put him even bigger than 7 lbs 12 oz, but I doubt it.

He’ll be here soon either way!

Pregnancy Q & A – very funny!

In honour of being at the tail end of being pregnant, I’m trying to find humour in the joys of fatigue, discomfort, etc. In light of that, here is a Q & A for those who are curious about some aspects of pregnancy – enjoy!

Pregnancy Questions & Answers:
Q: Should I have a baby after 35?
A: No, 35 children is enough.

Q: I’m two months pregnant now. When will my baby move?
A: With any luck, right after he finishes college.

Q: What is the most reliable method to determine a baby’s sex?
A: Childbirth.

Q: My childbirth instructor says it’s not pain I’ll feel during labor, but pressure. Is she right?
A: Yes, in the same way that a tornado might be called an air current.

Q: When is the best time to get an epidural?
A: Right after you find out you’re pregnant.

Q: Is there anything I should avoid while recovering from childbirth?
A: Yes, pregnancy.

Q: Do I have to have a baby shower?
A: Not if you change the baby’s diaper very quickly.

Q: Our baby was born last week. When will my wife begin to feel and act normal again?
A: When the kids are in college.

Q. What is the most common pregnancy craving?
A. For men to be the ones who get pregnant.

Q. My husband and I are very attractive. I’m sure our baby will be beautiful enough for commercials. Whom should I contact about this?
A. Your therapist.

Q. How will I know if my vomiting is morning sickness or the flu?
A. If it’s the flu, you’ll get better.

Q. My brother tells me that since my husband has a big nose, and genes for big noses are dominant, my baby will have a big nose as well. Is this true?
A. The odds are greater that your brother will have a fat lip.

Q. Since I became pregnant, My breasts, rear end, and even my feet have grown. Is there anything that gets smaller during pregnancy?
A. Yes, your bladder.

Q. The more pregnant I get, the more often strangers smile at me. Why?
A. Because you’re fatter then they are.

Q. What’s the difference between a nine-months pregnant woman and a Playboy centerfold?
A. Nothing, if the pregnant woman’s husband knows what’s good for him.

Q. Does labor cause hemorrhoids?
A. Labor causes anything you want to blame it for.

Q. Where is the best place to store breast milk?
A. In your breasts.

Q. Is there a safe alternative to breast pumps?
A. Yes, baby lips.

Q. How does one sanitize nipples?
A. Bathe daily and wear a clean bra. It beats boiling them in a saucepan.

Q. Can a mother get pregnant while nursing?
A. Yes, but it’s much easier if she removes the baby from her breast and puts him to sleep first.
Q. What happens to disposable diapers after they’re thrown away?
A. They are stored in a silo in the Midwest, in the event of global chemical warfare.

Q. What causes baby blues?
A. Tanned, hard-bodied bimbos.
Q. What is colic?
A. A reminder for new parents to use birth control.

Exciting times

Haha! Not really. I must say the farm (where we’re living for now) offers a lot of relaxation, sketchy internet access, and no cable. But it is beautiful out here in Moffat, ON.

I’ve now been here for a month – it’s hard to believe it’s been that long! I keep trying to remind myself that this state of relaxation will end soon, so I’d better not wish it away right now.

Truth is I’ve been relatively busy. For the month of January I’m working full-time doing web and database design, marketing “stuff”, and other things (office assistant, planning future events here at the farm and so on). It’s actually quite enjoyable work, though with the absence of many people around, it does get a bit solitary.

Enough of that. The other night Tim and I watched “Knocked Up”. For the sensitive types – I wouldn’t recommend it. We almost watched it with Julian (my 18 year old brother) over the weekend, but I must say I’m glad we didn’t given how much I was blushing through some scenes. Lots of language and “inappropriate” references, but it was a funny take on being “knocked up”.  For anyone who has seen it – remember the hissy fit Alison (Katherine Heigl) throughs in the car on the way to the doctor’s office towards the end of the movie? I asked Tim if I was that irrational – he politely declined to answer. Comedy or not, I do have a renewed appreciation for how nutty pregnant women can be!

Provided the internet doesn’t crash again, I’ll post again tomorrow after my doctor’s appointment and give another baby update!

All I Want For Christmas…….

What do you get the self respecting Christian who has everything? well ship of fools have the answer! They have the top 13 Christmas gifts for Christians.

So what are the top 13?

1. You can recreate the life of St Sebastian, (a martyr) who died under a volley of arrows, by buying a pin cushion. Push each pin in and feel the pain!

2.  For the computer lover there is a Mary memory stick. Based on Luke 2:51 (she treasured things in her heart), you can now put your documentary treasures in the same place!

3. Have you ever wondered what to do with your loved ones remains? why not have them stuffed lovingly into a teddy bear with “hug me” stitched on the front. That will dry those Christmas tears of remembrance for that loved one.

4. Do you own a funeral home? then you need this calendar – naked women in coffins!

5. This is one I have featured before – The Vatican Board Game

6. Now this is for your Pentecostal friends. It is a Holy Ghost t-shirt with words spoken in tongues on the front – so for all the hand wavers and lifters – Hi-Pa-Pa-A-Shun-Da – you interpreted that ok??

7. As the web site says “Riding in on a donkey won’t cut it today” so they have this chopper available

8. Want to smell like the Pope? Well get buying this alternative to Hi Karate!

9. Are your prayers not directed in the right place – you need a Jerusalem compass!

10. Church can be a bit dull – so here is how we can liven it up. No need to wait for the communion wine – bring your own in this hip flask shaped like a Bible!

11. Are you jealous of all those people who get Jesus on their pizza? Feeling left out that your KFC chicken wings do not resemble anything religious. Well now your toast can – yes you can wake up each morning to Holy Toast!

12. Now my fav – Thongs of Praise! The web site speaks for itself “Brothers, pop a righteous g-string in the stocking of the lady in your life this Christmas, and she will be blessed among women. Sisters, try these on for him, and put the guilt back in your sex life where it belongs.”

13. A walled nativity set – what every home needs for festive cheer

Enjoy the holidays!

Football Update

I think this is the funniest web page of the day! Poor guy saying that before thousands of people! I just love the first line (read the whole thing then go back and read the first line of the article again!)

My Dad speaks Romanian – I wonder does he make the same mistakes in conversation!

Car Repair Canadian Style….

I have nothing but negative things to say about car repair in Vancouver. Last February we left our car into a garage to be checked over and repaired. The car repair took almost 5 days! all they did was change the oil, fix the fan-belt and change the glow-plugs! They charged a fortune for the privilege of working on our car. I was unimpressed.

Anyway……..We had our car broken into overnight. Now nothing was taken (even the thief didn’t want the junk in our car!) and they were obviously only smashing windows and seeing what they could grab. We have an ipod digital/analogue converter in the car and I think they wanted to see if we had an ipod in the car to steal.

Back to repair. I left the car in to “Speedy Glass” (you know the song speedy glass repairs blah blah blah). All I can say is there is nothing speedy about speedy glass. The car was left in about 1pm yesterday. Now I have had windows smashed before in the UK, you turn up at the glass place who have a deal with your insurance company (now don’t get me started on ICBC insurance that is another rant for another day especially over this saga – for now we will stay on car repair!) and they repair the window while you wait. It takes about 30 minutes to an hour. Not in Vancouver – oh no no no!. In “Speedy” glass they take over 24 hours to replace the glass! It is 1.41pm as I write and still no sign of the car coming back. In the end we opted to do it without insurance coverage and pay so that we could get the car back quickly! I wonder how long it would take if we had opted for insurance!

Candian car repair (or at least Vancouver car repair) is really bad! Can anyone recommend a goo car repair garage that is fast, good and cheap??

We needed a new starter and left it in with a guy from our church. He did an outstanding job. If you need fast, reliable and great car service let me know – I recommend this guy!

Life after graduation

It’s wonderful! People frequently ask me how it feels to be done school. I must say that after many many years … 21 years total … I’m glad to not be in school this year. I’ll be honest and say that for a couple weeks I felt left out of the “Back-to-School” hype, but it’s passed!

So what am I doing with all the free time I’ve discovered? Given people are less than happy to employ someone who’s 17/18 weeks pregnant who is also moving in less than 3 months, I’ve started to work in a few other areas.

First of all, I’m doing research for my Grandpa. It’s really interesting stuff as he’s writing a book on Psalms with Bruce Waltke. Plus, I don’t much mind researching when I’m not the one who has to do the writing!

Second, I’m doing market research for my Dad’s company out East. I’m beginning to detect a trend of being hired for research purposes. I’m glad to see that my “professional student” status is being put to good use!

Lastly, I’ll be taking care of the babies at Tenth’s CBS group on Wednesday mornings. I should probably get Tim to come along one morning so he can learn how to change a diaper and hold a crying baby.

Other than that I’m getting to be overly “granny-ish” as I’m getting a chance to do craft-y stuff. And yes, (Mum, Dad and Tim), the violin’s getting brought out this week as well.

So, some may think my life is kinda sad, but I’m really enjoying relaxing and trying to get my bump to grow – I still look like I’ve just had too much junk food, rather than growing a baby, but it’ll come.

Oh yes, and as Tim announced, we’re sorting out a cross-country move as well. Very exciting!

It really is amazing how much one ends up doing when one really has nothing to do!

On the Move……..

It seems that Mondays are the days for big announcements on the blog! Anyway its time for another announcement!!

It seems that the end of the road here in Vancouver is fast approaching. If all goes according to plan, we will be rolling out of Vancouver in December and heading to Ontario. I will finish up my MDiv by audio and Jen will have a baby!

Today I was just thinking that in about 13 weeks Jen will be in Ontario and I should be just about hitting the road in the car! The drive across Canada is on! We will really miss Vancouver, the mountains, the skiing and the Wolf and Hound!!!

I was wondering if anyone knows where the best skiing is in the Calgary vicinity? I was thinking it might be fun to stop on the way across and take in some December snow.

We will keep you up to date with our moving plans, but right now we are looking into getting boxes and arranging removal companies and getting ready to go.
