My last political post?
I kind of resolved (in my head) that I wouldn’t post anything else political and this blog would become purely Luke focused – but having witnessed (possibly) the greatest political decision by any Presidential candidate I thought I would have one last post! well done John McCain! This just might win you the election!
I said back in 2006 that the Republican ticket needed to be McCain/Rice – well this is just about the next best thing!
stuff white people like
Thanks to Mac for this link. I have really enjoyed reading this blog on what white people like!
Being here in Ontario I often miss Vancouver – this blog has reminded me of quite a few white people on the left coast! My favourite posts are the ones on the NFL draft of friends (so that white people can feel the air of oppression on an afternoon) and the one on outdoor wear.
St. Valentine’s day
Have you forgotten to send that card to a loved one? I did, but it has all worked out ok thanks to the Republican party! Yes I got to send Jen her very own Hillary card:
Roses are red
Violets are Blue
I’ll raise your taxes and there’s nothing you can do!
Beautiful!
Send your own card to the one you love here
Republican V-P Nomination
Now Romeny is out of the primary election race, all that remains to be decided is who is the McCain V-P nominee. I was thinking about that today. Two days ago I would have bet the mortgage on it being McCain/Huckabee. I got to thinking this afternoon, given the tone of Romney’s speech to CPAC, I have a sneaking suspicion that Romney and McCain have done a deal. In this ever changing political race I now think its McCain /Romney for the Republicans. Who knows! this race has confounded me.
Two years ago I said the election would be McCain/Rice v Clinton/Obama. Ok so Condoleezza`s star has fallen. But McCain has made it (against all odds and I can claim no real insight here as I said he was finished in September!). Its been a torturous (no McCain play on words intended) route but I think it will be McCain and Romney for the Republicans. The Democratic ticket is more in flux. In a way that just speaks to this primary campaign. Last week the Republicans looked divided – now they seem to be pulling together and the Democrats are all at sea. It is a fascinating race with many a twist to come.
Why???
Just watched Mit Romney’s speech last night. Even in the face of crushing defeat he is carrying on – why? How much money can a millionaire waste?
It is clear from last night that Huckabee carries the GOP heartland. Last week we found out that McCain takes the crucial state of Florida. No matter what talk radio says, a McCain/Huckabee ticket is the Republican’s only chance. So here is some free advice for Mit Romney, stop spending your money, take four years to become the conservative voice in the party. Then in 4 years time run again and win the nomination. The reality is that the Democrats are favourite for November, if I was in the Romney camp I would advise him to sit back, watch and wait. Problem is vanity, politics and lots of cash are a very bad thing.
So step back Mit and watch the McCain/Huckabee ticket battle Clinton/Obama
I’m Irish….its official!
So here is the evidence:
Its hard to believe, but yes I (Tim Cairns) have become an Irish citizen!
Soldiers are we …..la la la la la la la la etc (really I know the words!!)
GOP ticket for 2008 revealed!

An Inconvenient Truth or a Big Lie?
Al Gore’s movie “An Inconvenient Truth” was sent out to all schools in the UK by the government. A parent was alarmed by the fact that the movie was shown in science class uncontested. The movie was shown unchallenged and was held up as true in all respects. The parent/school governor judicially reviewed the British government’s decision and effectively Gore’s movie was put on trial. The judge’s verdict was that the movie was “alarmist” and “grossly exaggerated.” Indeed it can only be shown in schools if 9 fundamental errors are contradicted by the teacher immediately after the movie is shown.
So what are the nine lies? below is a London Evening Standard graphic that helps parse it all down to the base level!
The BBC report is here
Full London Evening Standard report is here
The full reported decision is not yet up on the relevant site so if you want the full judgement leave a message and I will search for it later
EDIT – As Derek has pointed out in the comments Mr Gore won the Nobel Peace prize – at least someone else has been as bewildered as me – what has global warming got to do with peace?? see here for a fantastically funny piece in the Telegraph
The BBC…….again!
The BBC start a 4 part series on the Reformation tonight. Its called “The Protestant Revolution”. I will be attempting to get a copy at UK Nova or the Box. If anyone wants a copy I should be able to burn it for you.
The series explores how the Protestant Reformation effects everything we do today. Its on BBC 4 so it shouldn’t be too populist! I know I knock old Auntie Beeb but they do some good stuff.
Public funding of television does have its advantages. A quick search of the itunes store shows the quality of podcasts available from the BBC. No other broadcasting institution in the world produces the quality of the BBC – so I guess public funding licence fees are a good thing.
I just hope Katie and Derek have paid their licence fee in Scotland – no getting TV for free Mr and Mrs Brown!! you will get caught!
September 11th
Just in case you wanted to know why it all happened 6 years ago, the BBC have the answer! The BBC have a news service for children called “CBBC Newsround” this is their explanation for why it all happened:
The way America has got involved in conflicts in regions like the Middle East has made some people very angry, including a group called al-Qaeda – who are widely thought to have been behind the attacks. In the past, al-Qaeda leaders have declared a holy war – called a jihad – against the US. As part of this jihad, al-Qaeda members believe attacking US targets is something they should do.When the attacks happened in 2001, there were a number of US troops in a country called Saudi Arabia, and the leader of al-Qaeda, Osama Bin Laden, said he wanted them to leave.
So there you go children -America asked for it!
The Biased BBC blog have got on to this one and the BBC have pulled the page from their website and replaced it with a 9/11 time line. The google cache of the page still exists here. At Biased BBC you can read the whole transcript of what the BBC wanted to teach children about the terrorist attacks of 2001. The world is going mad.
